Audubon Zoo | Aquarium of the Americas |  Audubon Insectarium

The Audubon Nature Institute is not your average zoo. It's a place where you can get up close and personal with some of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. From majestic elephants to playful otters, there's something for everyone to enjoy!

Diverse Species

The Aquarium of the Americas is a magical underwater world right in the heart of New Orleans. The aquarium is home to over 3,600 animals from more than 250 species! You can see everything from colorful tropical fish to sleek sharks. Just a short distance from the aquarium, the Audubon Zoo offers a wild adventure with over 2,000 animals from all around the world!

Interactive Experiences

The Discovery Walk at the Audubon Zoo lets you interact with friendly farm animals. You can pet goats, sheep, and even a donkey! Get up close and personal with some of the sea creatures at the 13,000 gallon touch pool and feel the smooth skin of a stingray or the bumpy texture of a starfish!

Bug Appétit

Insects are an important source of protein in many cultures and a culinary delight if cooked correctly. Watch the amazing chefs at the Insectarium incorporate bugs into their dishes—and sample some of their exotic creations! Who wants a bite of Cricket King Cake?

 Virtual Reality

The Audubon Aquarium has a super cool Virtual Reality (VR) adventure where you can dive deep into the ocean without even getting wet! You’ll get to swim with dolphins, explore coral reefs, and come face-to-face with amazing sea creatures. It’s like being a real-life underwater explorer

Weird Wildlife

The Audubon Institute is home to some pretty unique creatures. Some species of animals have different colors than most of their counterparts due to genetic mutations, environmental adaptations, or selective breeding, which can influence their camouflage, mating success, or survival. Expect to see blue crawfish, white alligators, pink katydids, and even an albino axolotl.

 Why Should You Visit?

Well, besides the fact that it's a great way to spend a day, visiting the Audubon Nature Institute is also a chance to support conservation efforts. Visit the Institute to learn about initiatives in Louisiana and across the globe!
